I have recently learned some important facts about foster care. People who leave the foster care system after they turn 18, are suffering from mental, physical and emotional trauma. They suffer from substance abuse and criminal behavior (Barth 1990), along with multiple other things. Not all foster homes and foster children suffer from this, but many do. This is extremely unacceptable, and if we want a positive future for children in the next few decades, we need to stop this. Also, the majority of foster children spend 60 or more months in the foster care system. I hope, one day, there will be no foster care system, and children will be able to live in happy and healthy communities all over the world.
